Kaheksa, Upscale Tapas, Tallinn

Overview

We have only been to Kaheksa once, but were so impressed we will definitely be going back on our next trip! Kaheksa is a totally dog-friendly upscale tapas bar in Tallinn old town that is set in a lovely old building. It has a good selection of excellent food and drinks at reasonable prices, the service was fantastic, and there was plenty of space for Bertie. As you will see from the review below, this place is highly recommended.

Atmosphere & Dog-Policy/Welcomeness

Kaheksa has one of the loveliest settings and atmospheres of all the restaurants we have been to! It is set in a beautiful old building with lovely stone and wood, making it an extremely welcoming and comfortable place to enjoy excellent food and drink. They have done a great job mixing the old and new, providing a stylish, chic, yet very comfortable space. Importantly, they have not crowded too many tables in, so there is plenty of space for you and your furry friends.

Food

Our experience is very limited as we have only eaten here once, and did not eat so much as we had enjoyed a large lunch, but we were extremely happy with the food and drinks, actually, that is an understatement: we were blown away! Everything we had was excellent, for example, the Bacalhau (salt cod) croquettes, the salami plate and bread, tuna tataki, and the tortilla. However, the standout dish was the amazingly decadent chicken livers cooked in sherry; everything was perfectly prepared and all the flavours married perfectly. We wanted to eat everything on the menu, but were just too full.

Drinks

Again our experience is limited, but they seem to offer a decent selection of beers, spirits, and cocktails along wines by the glass and bottle. We enjoyed a very nice Cava, a sweet sherry, a few bottles of ice-cold Estrella Damm, and a couple glasses of excellent red of wine. All the drinks were served well and reasonably priced, so we were again very happy.

Summary

If you and your furry friends find yourself wanting a dog-friendly upscale tapas bar in Tallinn old town, then Kaheksa is a great choice (maybe the only choice). While we thoroughly enjoyed our visit in summer, we think it would be especially welcoming on a cold winter’s night given the lovely atmosphere and building.
