Overview
Chakra is a very good Indian restaurant in Tallinn’s Old Town with excellent food, a lovely summer terrace, and a somewhat dog-friendly policy. Dogs are not allowed indoors, so your furry friend is only welcome when outdoor seating is open—typically in summer. We’ve only visited twice, but both times we were impressed by the quality of the food and the calm courtyard setting.
Dog Policy & Atmosphere
Dogs are only allowed on the outdoor terrace, which is tucked away in a charming courtyard behind the restaurant. There’s plenty of space for even larger dogs, and the setting is peaceful and pleasant. As indoor seating is off-limits for pets, this is very much a summer-only option for dog owners. That said, the terrace fills up quickly in good weather, so booking is recommended.
Food & Drink
Though our visits were limited, we’ve tried a few standout dishes more than once and found the food consistently excellent—some of the best Indian cuisine we’ve had in Europe, just edging out our favourite in Tampere.
We started both meals with crispy lamb samosas and chicken tikka kebab (from the mains, not the starters). The samosas were well-filled and crisp, and the tikka was beautifully cooked—charred outside, tender inside, and full of flavour. Both were served with fresh, flavourful chutneys.
Among the mains, we particularly enjoyed the Lamb Rogan Josh and Chicken Tikka Hara Masala. Each had its own distinct flavour, clearly made from scratch, with no sign of a base sauce. The lamb was lean and tender, and the chicken dish had a fresh herbal note—mintier than expected, but delicious. The Dahl Makhani wasn’t our favourite, but still decent, and the naan breads were excellent—crispy, chewy, and just right.
We stuck to draught beer and water, both well served and reasonably priced.
Final Thoughts
If you’re in Tallinn during the warmer months and looking for high-quality Indian food in a beautiful courtyard setting, Chakra is definitely worth a visit. Just be aware that dogs are not allowed inside, which limits its appeal outside of summer. Even so, it’s currently one of our favourite stops in the city—especially when the weather plays along.
