NH Atlanta, Rotterdam

We have stayed at the NH Atlanta Rotterdam, which is a nice dog-friendly hotel in a lovely building and in a great position, twice so far. Overall, we are happy to recommend it for people travelling with or without pets, but there are one or two things to consider.

First, to the positives. To start with, the staff were very friendly and efficient both times, the complimentary water in reception was appreciated, and the hotel is in a great location: convenient to get into town, close to a small park for the dog, and close to number of coffee shops (including the excellent Served). Next, the rooms were comfortable and had good amenities (comfortable bed, piping hot water, the bedroom, bathroom, and linen were all clean, and there is a mini fridge and tea and coffee making facilities). Finally, there was plenty of space, but we stayed in the larger room (Superior XL Double) both times.

Next to the slight negatives, but even these are quite subjective. On our first visit, the check-in time was very late (5pm), but on our second visit, it had been revised to a fairly standard time of 3pm. Unfortunately, on the first trip, we were hoping to get in earlier but were only given the keys at dead on 5pm due to the hotel being full the night before. On the second visit it did not matter as we arrived at 7pm. We knew the check-in times when we booked, so cannot really complain, but just check the time if visiting in summer (it may go back to 5pm). The only other slight negatives were that the rooms are a bit dated, the hotel bar is closed, and as the hotel has its original windows, they do not block out any of the street noise, which to no fault of the hotel is quite loud (mainly boy racers revving their cars late at night).  Nevertheless, these negatives were not substantial, and we still had a comfortable stay in the clean and comfortable rooms and appreciated the efficient staff and great location.

Now, for those thinking about staying with dogs, there are a couple points worth noting. First, we think there is a limited number of dog-friendly rooms, so it is best to book in advance and make sure to make a note that you have a dog at the time of booking. Second, in terms of price, at the time of writing this review, the cost is €25 per stay, which is quite expensive if staying just one night, but reasonable if staying 2 or more. Thirdly, unlike many other hotels we have stayed in, the hotel does not provide a “welcome package” for pets: no snacks or poop bags. Finally, the hotel is a few minutes’ walk from small park (well grassy area), so it is very convenient and comfortable for walking your furry friend(s).

Overall, we had a nice stay here on both occasions, and if the street noise is not a huge problem for you, we can recommend it in all other aspects. In our opinion, a solid 3-star dog-friendly hotel in a good location of Rotterdam. Also, if you arrive in Rotterdam late, as we did on our second visit, but are looking for some tasty modern Dutch (and international) food close by, we highly recommend Brasserie Jules which is less than 5-minutes walk from the hotel.
