Hotel Soho, Tartu

We have only stayed at the Hotel Soho in Tartu once, but were extremely happy, especially given the overall service and comfort, and extremely reasonable price. Therefore, like the Hestia Hotel Ilmarine in Tallinn, we highly recommend this hotel for people traveling with pets.

Firstly, the staff were very friendly and efficient, and Hotel Soho is in a great location; in the heart of the old town and only a few minutes’ walk from a small park for our dog (Bertie). The hotel also offers free parking right next to the hotel, which is not only super convenient, but amazing that it is free given the very reasonably priced hotel rooms.

Next, as for the room, we were very happy and have no complaints. I cannot remember if we booked a Standard S (20 m²) or Standard M (24 m²), but either way, there was plenty of space, and the room was very clean, the bed was very comfortable, and there was a mini-fridge. As mentioned, the bedroom, bathroom, and linen were all very clean and comfortable and there was piping hot water and good water pressure in the shower. Not a big issue, especially as breakfast is included in all room bookings, but there were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room.  All in all, we were very happy with our room, as was Bertie.

Moving on to the breakfast, there was a great selection of tasty food and drinks, including sparkling wine for the adults, and strangely, ice cream for the kids (but the adults were also enjoying it). As noted in previous reviews, we are not huge fans of hotel breakfasts, but the breakfast at Hotel Solo was very good, and much better than many we have elsewhere.

As noted above, the staff were very friendly and efficient. For example, check in was easy, they happily stored our luggage as we checked in very early, and in the evening, I asked for an ice-bucket from reception, and it was provided with no fuss or judgement.

Finally, some considerations for travelers staying with dogs. First, as with most hotels, there may be a limited number of dog-friendly rooms, so it is best to book in advance and make sure to make a note that you have a dog at the time of booking. It costs €20 (I think per night but possibly per stay) for pets, which is on the higher end, especially as there is no “welcome package” containing snacks and poop bags. Finally, the hotel is a few minutes’ walk from a small park, and just a few extra minutes to the river front, so it is very convenient and comfortable for walking your furry friend(s).

In summary, a very comfortable and convenient hotel at a great price, and we had a lovely one-night stay. Therefore, we will definitely stay at Hotel Soho if we visit Tartu again. Whether you are traveling by car or not, a excellent option for those looking for a dog-friendly hotel in a good location of Tartu.
