We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at the Solo Sokos Hotel Turun Seurahuone and were very impressed with the staff, the rooms, and the amenities (for us and Bertie). Very highly recommended for anyone staying in Turku, whether travelling with a pet or not.
This is a newly refurbished hotel, and they have decorated the public areas and rooms very nicely. The room was spacious, the bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom was well-designed and had piping hot water and good water pressure. All areas, linen, and amenities were spotlessly clean. The mini bar was well stocked and the glasses and cups etc. were more like those you would get in a restaurant than in a hotel room. We did not have any of the mini-bar drinks but brought our own wine to have in the room, and when we asked for an ice-bucket to be brought up, it was done so very quickly and with no attitude. We have stayed in hundreds of hotels over the years in various countries and this hotel stands up amongst some of the best we have stayed in, be they 4 or 5 stars.
For those thinking about staying with dogs, there are a number of things worth noting. First, there is a limited number of dog-friendly rooms, so it is best to book in advance. Also, be sure to make a note that you have a dog at the time of booking or call the hotel after you make the booking. Second, it costs €15 per night for pets, but if you have an S-Card, there is no charge. We thought the €15 was very reasonable, especially given that the hotel provides a “welcome package” containing a great selection of high-quality Best Friend products (various snacks and a roll of poop bags). Bertie thoroughly enjoyed the snacks, and we think there is close to €15 of products in the bag. Next, there was a dog bed in the room, which was great for our dog, but not sure if it would be suitable for a big dog. The only negative point we had was that dogs are not allowed in the restaurant for breakfast, but as we are new to the “travelling with dogs” thing, we are not sure if this is the norm. Finally, we did not eat in the restaurant (Gunnar), which looked very nice, so cannot state if it takes dogs or not, so if you plan to eat there, check in advance about the dog policy.
In terms of other facilities, we did not use them, but the hotel has a gym and sauna freely available for guests. We arrived very early and were able to store our luggage in a secure room in reception. The in-room Wi-Fi was easy to connect and seemed to be very fast.
Overall, we had a great stay here and cannot wait to go back. Highly recommended.
